Braintree & Witham Libdems help sign up Students at Essex Uni Freshers Fair

October 3, 2015 6:17 PM

Essex University Freshers FairMembers of Braintree & Witham LibDems joined other Essex activists today to help sign up students to get involved in politics at Essex University Freshers Fair.

The stall received a hugely positive response from the new students at Essex University, with over 100 signing up to join the Lib Dem Society and to support the #LibDemFightback. Many students were particularly supportive of the need for Britain to stay in Europe and also the Lib Dem campaign to stop the Tories from scrapping Human Rights in the UK.

Cllr Jessica Scott-Boutell from Stanway Ward in Braintree & Witham, and former student of Essex University said,

"The Lib Dems are the party that are doing the most to try to stop cuts to Youth Services and to prevent the Tories from taking away the grants that help students from deprived backgrounds get the education they deserve. So we were thrilled, but not surprised, that so many students were interested in joining the Lib Dems in Essex today."

There will now be a thriving Lib Dem student society at Essex University, and plans include social events, debates, meetings with Members of Parliament as well as campaigning on issues that matter to students. To find out more, visit the Essex University Lib Dem Society's Facebook page.
