Residents urged to have their say on transport projects

Amanda TaylorCambridge residents living in the south of the city are being asked their views on how developer cash should be spent on transport improvements.

The consultation is being carried out by Cambridgeshire County Council and covers Cherry Hinton, Queen Edith's and Trumpington.

Developers building across the county are often asked for contributions, known as Section 106 money, to reduce the effects of their developments on an area. Some of this money can be spent on transport or traffic-related improvements.

County council officers have suggested a link from Hills Road bridge to the Guided Bus cycle route and a clean-up of road signs on the ring road to make them clearer and less cluttered.

They will be attending Cambridge City Council's South Area Committee meeting in Cherry Hinton Village Centre on March 5 to discuss the matter further.

City Councillor, Amanda Taylor who represents Queen Edith's, is asking for residents to come up with their own ideas. Her own idea is for signage and low-level lighting on the Guided Bus cycleway.

Cllr Taylor said: "This is an ideal opportunity for residents to say how their areas could be improved by this developer money.

"I'm sure people will have many ideas for schemes which could benefit their neighbourhoods. I urge them to play a part in this consultation so that we can get some real improvements that people want."

Residents can post their ideas to Cllr Taylor's website at: amandataylor.mycouncillor.org/2012/01/28/how-would-you-improve-transport-in-the-south-of-cambridge;

on her Facebook page at www.facebook.com/QueenEdiths;

or in writing to Cllr Amanda Taylor, 41 Holbrook Road, Cambridge CB1 7SX.
